Heroes to Zeroes

I mentioned this over and over to my friends, that I do not, I repeat, I DO NOT want to watch a single episode of the second season of Heroes until at least half the season is filmed and aired, 'cuz I hate waiting, it drives me cuckoo, so I prefer to watch episodes back to back.

But I just read this somewhere, can't remember where I read it though; The ratings for the second season of Heroes is going downnnnnnn.....

Is it that bad?

Muaz Rashid - Tell me why?~ (ain't nothin' but a heartache~)

Cover for the latest copy of Vanity Fair and honest to say, that is a seriously scary picture of Julia Roberts.

Even her expression looks weird. See I've seen a vast number of pictures where Julia Roberts grins ear to ear, and she always looked great, she's one of those people who could actually grin as big as they could and not look stupid. But this picture just look weird, the rose? Maybe. I dunno. I think someone's fiddled with it too much with photoshop.

But the neck.. the neck.. How many times on Top Model do we hear, always show the neck, always. And this picture serves a good, if not great, reason as to why we should NOT hide our neck in taking a picture. Although, for this picture, you can't really blame it on her, the light from the back actually washed out the features of her neck.

Nonetheless, scary cover.

Muaz Rashid - It's amazing how you could speak right to my heart~ uuuu~ uuu~~

It's been awhile..

Finished laughing? heh.

So, I deliberately blurred out some details of the ad, for reasons I assume you all would understand.

Anyway..

The ones circled are the errors that appear salient to me, there are some other minor errors, but I just wanna focus on the ones I marked.

No. 1; The verb "read", when in past tense is, yes pronounced as "red", but come on, you can't walk away misspelling one of the easiest word ever introduced to you in kindergarten, it's R E D, red. NOT "read"; that ain't no colour..

No.2: The "prise", another spelling error, another easy word, it's the PRICE.

No. 3: "Who is interesting to buy it"; "interesting" is an adjective used in a manner such as "wow that's interesting" or "this is an interesting buy", i.e. it is used to describe a noun. Therefore if you use it in a sentence "who is interesting", the word "interesting" is describing the pronoun "who" (whoever it refers to); such as "Mila, who is an interesting person, bla bla" ANYWAY it should be "Who is interested", or rather, for an ad such as this, it seem more efficient to just say "if interested, please call..."

No.4: "Jest sms in"; "jest" a spelling error for "just". and the preposition should be "at" instead of "in" therefore the sentence should be "Just SMS at"

Noticed I used the term "spelling error" instead of typo. What's the difference? Well, the difference is that a typo is a spelling MISTAKE, and most common in prints, where the author could tell that it's wrong, but did not realise the error when writing due to reasons such as fatigue or the like.

A spelling error is different from a mistake, as it is more permanent, where the writer or learner does not know that he or she has created an error, which seemed to be the case for this ad, I think. It is a problem on competency rather than a plain mistake.

Non-Multicultural? Are you serious?

This was written in a coursemate's presentation this morning, (not quote-unquote):

"Brunei (Negara) is NOT a multicultural country, but a Malay country"

Something like that, and that is taken from a constitution or such.

Anyway, the point is, HOW can you sanely say that this country, the country I'm living in at the moment is NOT multicultural? Because if so, then where have I been living all this time? I'm sure that all this time, I'm raised and I live in Brunei, and "NOT a multicultural country" is definitely NOT how I would describe it.

Brunei is culturally diverse, how can you not acknowledge the existence of the Chinese and Indians at the very least, not to mention some other indigenous, the ibans and penans to name a few races, all these people play an important role in our country, take the chinese; have you ever been to HuaHo? Have you ever heard of Wu Chun? The Indians, ever been to the minimarts all over the country? Who manages it? They all have contributed a lot to our country in a number of ways, the economic development particularly.

Everywhere you turn there's bound the be other races amongst us Malays, yes we are the most dominant race in this country and yes we are the "original" race of this country, but we CANNOT leave the other races unacknowledged. They have the rights to be known and acknowleged and receive equal treatment like us Malays.

Brunei IS a multicultural country.

Stress

I have a major headache.. MAJOR headache.. It's as if there's a time bomb under my cranium, ticking away, waiting to explode.

Why?

This is why:

The fat man he always eats more food until he become lazy and then sometimes he want to exercise for his weight. He buy book “keep fit”. His name Fakur. He feel anxious about his weight and the climate become bad.

After that, he not worry abut climate he wanted to try too until his energy became back. He want jogging his town. Sometimes he used book for instruction. He tried to keep his our body fit.

After that, he look around his house. The climate look not bad. He start to jogging but people look likes fun when Fakur exercise. People not worried about his body because they fit and more energy. Fakur think he like a dog fat. Fakur not care about it because he want to fit.

After he jogging on the way to back home, he look in front his eyes is are twice old women and a dog. He running faster and then the dog like feel angry but fakur did not come. He only do his job perfact.

After fakur behind that’s women, he did not see a strength with a dog and then fakur was take it and then he fall down. He feel panic and he want running faster because maybe a dog want to beet he.

Fakur had a sick, his leg was had blood because he fall down and then the dog was beet his hand. The dog feel angry. The old woman want the dog fall it. Fakur want to back home.

After that the climate change became rain. Fakur feel cold. He feel sad and why a rain fall down? After he back home he became tired and feel he sick and also his back sick. He throw the book ‘Keep fit” and did not want to exercise.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Waahhh! I want to cry! I'm serious... waaaaahhhh

The last time, I mentioned we can't really blame the teacher. But observe this conversation:

Teacher: The dog jump over the fancy
Student: Err.. teacher, isn't it pronounced "fence".
Teacher: STAND ON YOUR CHAIR!!

That happened years ago when a relative of mine was in primary school; he was the student, and yes, he stood on his chair till the end of the class.

Spice Girls make headlines with "headlines"

So the video for their latest single "headlines" is premiered. A lot of people are saying how disappointing the song is compared to what we all know the girls can do, and I'm jumping in the bandwagon, they could've done better. They could've rocked the world like how they used to.

"Headlines" is too okay, if not soporific. I was expecting something up beat like "Spice Up Your Life" or, if they wanna stick to the ballad genre, maybe something like "Viva Forever" or maybe "Goodbye".

The video, on the other hand, is actually okay. Gotta check out the abs on Geri "Ginger Spice", awesome. Although I don't understand why Victoria "Posh Spice" was sitting stiff in that dominatrix outfit, it was... completely random and it did not go with the whole flow of the video.

Nevertheless, check out the video:

Weekly Personal Rants (again)

Oh I don't know if this should be under my weekly rant, but layan. antam, So we had our TESL Raya celebration today, which had turned into DELAL and Dept of Geography's DeepaRaya (Deepavali PLUS Raya) AND then turned into DELAL and Dept of Geography AND Dept of Sociology and Anthropology DeepaRaya - PHEW. And all that in ONE Corridor! At first I was very worried and concerned about the space, HOW in the world are we going to accommodate 3 departments worth of staff and undergraduates AND guests in one corridor?

And that was answered today, it was a blast and it was not as cramped as I thought it'd be. Not everyone turned up though, but I was indeed glad that the first year TESL could make it, not all of them, but some, but that was still great nonetheless, better some than none.

What was boring was that I was the only male student who actually came in full costume. NYEH! the only other dude who wore cara melayu was Dr. Azam, my lecturer. So that makes two guys in cara melayu. Although he burnt his sometime during the open house, he was leaning to close to the candles. heh.

Oh, oh, one of my lecturers actually thought, all this time, that I had a nose job! a friggin' nose job! LOL. He went "So, how's your nose going?". I went "uh? what do you mean?". "Didn't you have an accident and got it fixed, it's so straight"

LOL. BULEY! I've known him for two years and all this time, he thought my nose is a result of a rhinoplasty. I have no clue where he got the accident idea from though.

Oh, talking about accidents, I hit my bloody new car to a pole last night when I was reversing, bloody hell. I just got the car, and it's only been a friggin' week. PLEH. It's small, but I'm just so disappointed with how careless I was.

So anyway, back to the Raya celebration, it was successful, I brought 40 bucks worth of Satay and all was gone within seconds, note to self; next time, bring 100 bucks worth. So to other TESLians, let's have it again next year shall we? huhu. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, was too busy.

Oh, before I end, I'm 5'7'' (yes, I'm short), and my friend said I don't look 5'7'', I look like I'm at least 5'5'' because I'm NOT thin. Gah! Thus, conclusion; I need to lose weight.

Oh, Sas about the hiatus thing, cemana jua, aku kan pindah rumah. heh. So no internet connection. Thus payah kan update regularly.

Weekly Personal Rants

I hate Lucky Draws. why? 'cuz it's one competition where I can't put any efforts on winning. None whatsoever, and I'm a very competitive person, when I enter a competition, I work to get to the top, and if I lose, then it would give me the initiative to actually work harder and/or learn from my mistakes for the next time around. But for a lucky draw, I can't do anything about it, I'd just be standing there waiting for my name to be called. And I hate that. sheesh. I hate not being able to do anything. Which is why, if I'm entitled to a lucky draw, I couldn't be bothered about it.

But this morning, I was bugged by my parents to go, 'cuz they bought the car with my name, and they wanna have the chance to win the main prize, and I can't be selfish about it. So I went there this morning. Standing in the scorching sun and not win a single prize. Ev Voila, that proves my point.

Although, I must say that wasn't entirely the thing that bugged me today. What really bugged me were the people; well not all, two types of people; the fashion disasters and the racist idiots.

Do NOT read further if you are easily offended

The fashion disasters; Some points I would wanna point out: Elaborate patterns are nice.... if you're a cushion or a curtain! Don't risk to wear too many patterns on your clothes, it hardly works! I saw a dude wearing an elaborately flowery top with a heavy red hued camouflaged pants, every single pattern was screaming for attention, and moreover, the colour didn't complement him at all.

One more, Perms are gorgeous, really. I love beautiful wavy locks, but woman~ work the mousse! I really don't get why a lot of girls out there tend to put excess mousse in their hair and thus making it appear WET. The wet look is never in, it's disgusting, and it doesn't really look wet, it looked greasy, and that's just disgusting. Blow dry your hair a bit and then pat some mousse to it, and then blow dry it again, that should make it look natural and loose. Oh Oh! and talking about loose, go for sexy loose curls, don't go for them tight ones, it's difficult to pull off.

The racist idiots: So a Panjabi won the main prize today. Congratulations to him. From where I was standing, this dude went all pissy and said "Eeehh... Panjabi tia pulang manang. Sial, Kurang ajar". BAIE KALI! Have I ever mentioned that I HATE, I HATE racist comments! Racism is an anathema to me. Seriously! KENAPAKAN kalau an Indian dude won??! It's his luck, he's entitled to win, he's HUMAN. Let him be. Baie, sasakku, f*ckin' racists!!

Apa lagi yang kan ku mentalkan ani? ntah.

Oh, I might be on a hiatus soon. 'cuz I'll be moving soon.

Whore no.2 - pfft!
